Hey, welcome to Mission Hills. We're on week number three of our deep dive into what some people, they give shallow waters. We're taking a look at the genealogy of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew because Matthew goes out of his way to highlight stories that are pretty messy. I. So remind us that God looks at our mess and goes, yeah, that, that's a good place to do a miracle.

Okay. And so today we're gonna tackle another one of the stories that Matthew reminds us of. As you saw in the reflection video, we're gonna be looking at the story of a woman named Ruth. And if you wanna follow along today, we're gonna be in the Book of Ruth. 'cause she has her own book, Rahab and Tamer only got one chapter, but Ruth has four chapters in its own book.

And by the way, if you're not sure how to find Ruth and you're using an old fashioned paper bible it's about here. It's right after the Book of Judges, and it's right before the book of First Samuel. Both of those are bigger books but Ruth is sandwiched in between them. And what we're gonna talk about today is the, a reality that I think sometimes we can forget, and that is the reality that God is faithful even when we're not.

But there's also the reality that, that our faithfulness to God is what allows us to experience all of the blessings that come from his faithfulness. So that's kinda what the story of Ruth is about. And here's how the Book of Ruth begins. She says in the day when the judges ruled there was a famine in the land.

I'm just gonna stop there for a second, because the fact that there was a famine indicates that there had been a failure of faithfulness. Okay. In the case, somebody had not been faithful because the land he's talking about is the promised land. And God had made a deal with the Israelite people.

The promised Land was kind of part of the package deal. And what God said was, okay, I'm gonna be yo ...
