Title: How to Get Through What You will Never Get Over
Author: Samuel Burgess
Text: 2 Corinthians 12:7-10
Introduction:
*I want to begin our study with an important question: Have you ever experienced grief so deep that you knew it would forever change you? Tragedy; unexpected sorrow will many times challenge everything you have ever believed.
*It will challenge your beliefs that you firmly stand on; simple truths like [God is good]; [God is faithful]; God keeps His Promises]; [God watches over you and protects you]; [God cares for you] will seem questionable.
When your mind is blown; your breath is taken; when you are not physically able to stand...everything we have put our hopes in may seem like just a dream. (There are Christians that know exactly what I am talking about.)
*Then after over time, most Christians come to the realization that God was there, He knew your situation long before you ever did, and He was the One who brought you through it.
[Let me explain to you what a tragedy can cause us to do...]
1. Rethink what we believe
2. Reevaluate why we believed in God in the first place 3. Retreat from God's Word and God's people
4. Regret our commitment we made to Jesus
5. Renounce our faith in Jesus
One of the clearest truths the Bible reveals about God is that He is Sovereign. God is the ultimate ruler of everything.
To say that God is Sovereign means that He has the Power, Wisdom, and Authority to do or allow anything He chooses regarding His creation. This means that whatever comes into our lives could only be by the permission of God!
God is never caught by surprise. He is in complete control even through events that seem random and meaningless.
Let's be honest for just a moment. We want God to be in control of our lives because we know deep within our hearts that He will, at all times, do what is right. What bothers most Christians is, we want God to be in control as long as His purposes align with ours.
