Title: The Arrest of Jesus
Author: Marvin Patterson
Text: John 18:1-12
Introduction:
A college student was in Philosophy class, where a class discussion about whether or not God exists was in progress. The professor had the following logic: "Has anyone in this class seen God?" Nobody spoke. "Has anyone in this class touched God?" Again, nobody spoke. "Has anyone in this class ever heard God?" When nobody spoke for the third time, he simply stated, "Then there is no God!" One of the students did not like the sound of this, and asked for permission to speak. The professor granted it, and the student stood up. "Has anyone in this class seen our professor's brain?" he asked.

He was King of Kings, and Lord of Lords! But the scene changes in chapter 18. He finishes all that HE wanted to tell the disciples, and He goes out into the night to be arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane! Let us see how this progresses!

He is putting the emphasis on the deity of Christ, whereas the other Gospels emphasize His humanity. You will notice that Jesus will not resist arrest. He is the Lamb of God who offers no resistance. "... as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth" (Isa ...
