In 1961, President John F Kennedy stood before Congress and cast a bold vision; putting a man on the moon before the decade was out. At the time, the technology was not there, and the challenge seemed unattainable. But the nation believed in the vision, they invested, worked, and sacrificed.

In 1969, Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon. That moment was not just about scientific advancement and discovery, it was about faith. What had never been accomplished and thought to be impossible, they believed to be possible.

Faith is not seeing and yet believing.

As Christians, we are a people of faith. Faith is at the very heart of Christianity. We are saved by grace through faith. We are called to live by faith. It is only through faith that we can please God.

Today, as a church, we gather in faith as we look to our future, trusting God for what is yet to be.

To help us, I thought it would be appropriate to remind ourselves what it means to walk and live by faith. I want us to turn to Hebrews 11. We will not read all of it, but we will begin with the first 2 verses before dropping down to verse 6.

Hebrews 11.1-2, 6-19 - Now faith is the certainty of things hoped for, a proof of things not seen. 2 For by it the people of old gained approval... 6 And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for the one who comes to God must believe that He exists, and that He proves to be One who rewards those who seek Him.

7 By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, by which he condemned the world, and became an heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

8 By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he left, not knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he lived as a stranger in the land of promise, as in a f ...
