Many of us know, far-too-well... what it's like to cheer for a losing team. I know, I do. As a Dallas Cowboys fan, I'm no longer convinced that winning is even an option. Right? When you lose as long as we've lost... and you cheer for a team that lives and operates in a losing culture... winning doesn't even seem possible. Can I get an AMEN? ...Titans fans... Falcon fans... You guys know what I'm talking about.
In the NFL-nobody wants to be on a losing team... that's why "Black Monday" happens every year. Some of you don't know what "Black Monday" is. You probably know about... "Back Friday!" That's the day after Thanksgiving where people shop for discounted items... But "Black Monday" is another day on the calendar... where many NFL Coaches get fired every single year. Look it up. It's a real thing. In fact, so far this year, over (image) 22 NFL coaches, coordinators or GM's have been fired...
"Black Monday" happens like clockwork, each year, on the day following the final game of the season. Here's why that happens: It's because NFL Owners know... Leaders determine culture. That's why, if you have a losing culture, you get so excited about potential new leaders. We say... "If that guy becomes our coach, he could turn this thing around."
That's what I was thinking... when they announced that Deion Sanders might be the new coach of the Cowboys. When I heard that, I was so excited about the potential... and all the possibilities. I was thinking-This is going to be the beginning of a new era of excellence... I was already forecasting the championship culture that I knew was coming as a result of this inevitable leadership change... [pause]
...but then the Cowboys announced... they were hiring someone else instead...someone that's never ever even coached a football team before... and I'm sure it's going to be fine, ...
