INTRODUCTION
Tonight, we are in the third and final study of Titus Chapter Two, in a series of studies entitled "Our Man in Crete: Members of the Church."
This is the letter Paul wrote to his preacher boy Titus. Often, when one thinks of Paul's preacher boy, Timothy first comes to mind. Paul wrote twice to Timothy.
However, it was Titus whom Paul sent to deal with the tough stuff in Corinth and Crete. I've likened Titus to James Bond, Jack Bauer, Ethan Hunt, or James Bond. Paul sent Titus to deal with Misson Impossibles.
We'll begin tonight by reading in Titus Chapter 2, Verse 11.
"11For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. 15 Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you."
Last week, we studied verses 4-10. Those verses identified the character and conduct expected of young women, young men, bondservants, and slaves who are followers of Christ.
Before we move forward with our study, which focuses on church members, I'll briefly summarize Chapter 2.
In Chapter Two, Verse One, Paul addressed the conduct of preachers, pastors, or elders.
"2 But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine:"
There is a whole lot of garbage being preached behind pulpits today. Learning what is and is not being preached today would blow your mind.
Liberals, people who teach contrary to Biblical doctrine, are preaching and leading in Baptist churches. I can point to a coup ...
