INTRODUCTION

If you've got your Bibles with you this evening, please find your place in the letter of Titus, Chapter One, Verse One. I am beginning a study series through the little practical, applicable, powerful letter that Paul wrote to another one of his preacher boys, a young man named Titus.

Paul had a special place in his heart for mentoring, teaching, discipling, and training young men saved under his ministry.

Throughout the week, as I prepared this sermon, a gentleman, a pastor, kept coming to my mind who I want to be more like - Pastor Radu Cifor in Nasaud, Romania. I've been to Romania many, many times, and one of the unique things I've seen about Pastor Abdus's ministry is that wherever he pastors, there's always a large group of young people he mentors and disciples. He brings them along like a Pied Piper. I want to be that guy.

Paul was that guy. You wouldn't usually think about Paul being that, but he absolutely was. So, I've titled this study "Our Man in Crete" because that's precisely what Titus was.

Titus was a spiritual

- Chuck Norris

- Jack Bower

- James Bond

- He was a spiritual Ethan Hunt handling a mission impossible.

- Titus was that guy that you sent in when you had a rough, tough job that nobody else wanted to touch.

His name means something along the lines of honorable. It's from the same root as Timothy.

Here you have Timothy being Paul's preacher boy and Titus being Paul's preacher boy.

Titus was

- honorable

- honest

- dependable

- faithful

Paul was still serving and ministering in Ephesus when he received word that things were getting out of hand in Crete. So, Paul sent Titus over to take care of business.

Titus had already proven himself to Paul during some dicey assignments dealing with those crazy Corinthians. And because of his work in Corint ...
