- Last week we began a series called Elevate: 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting. And to be honest, I don't think it does it justice to call this a "sermon series." It's so much more than that. I'm asking every one of you to participate in multiple ways. I want you to pray, I want you to fast, I want you to commit to be here each Sunday and participate.
- *I have already been encouraged by the stories of so many people who have embraced this challenge. Remember, it's up to you and the Lord what you decide to do. But the one thing I ask of you is to reject the status quo and do something. Don't just stay the same. Ask God to change your heart.*
- Remember, fasting is voluntarily going without food - or any other regularly enjoyed, good gift from God - for the sake of some spiritual purpose. It is markedly countercultural in our consumerist society...
- *If you missed last week, here's what's going on. We began a journey last week of fasting and prayer for 21 days. Our staff has written and published prayer and fasting guides for adults and children. We want everyone to take a book and use it over these next 21 days. You may be thinking, "Well, I missed last week so there's really no sense in starting now." It's never too late to start! Join us and ask God to begin to do a powerful work in your life through prayer and fasting.*
- We are looking at a few selected psalms over these next few weeks. They are from a section of psalms called "Songs of Ascents." The Jews would sings these songs as they ascended to the Holy City, Jerusalem, for their special celebrations and festivals.
