Title: Instructions (2)
Series: Calm In the Chaos
Author: Jerry Watts
Text: I John 2:1-14
Turn to 1 John 2. We continue our series in 1 John entitled, "Calm In The Chaos."
What comes to mind when you hear the word, "Instructions" depends on if you are a male or female. If you are a female, it's likely that the first thing you do when you get something that requires assembly of some kind is you pull out the instructions. If you are male, it likely that when YOU get something that requires assembly, that the piece of paper with the words "Instructions," you consider to be a waste of space in the packaging. HA HA But sometimes I get confused. I don't know how I get anywhere without my little helper in the car. I'd probably be bouncing off trees and buildings and stuff but she's there to help. Like she tells me when the light changes color and everything. It's so convenient and helpful. Light is green - 'Thank you helper.' I was confused and didn't know. And we wonder why men RUN from instructions. (I remember a commercial of a child dropping the assembly instruction down the stair well from the 2nd floor to her dad) While all of these are funny, we need instructions.
How do we, as Christ-followers, navigate the culture in which we find ourselves. As you know, in the past half-century, our culture has gone from a decidedly Christian culture to a decidedly pagan culture and the shift has not ceased. As a result, the wind of war threaten us with the chaos. What winds am I speaking of? Take your pick; moral, marriage, political, relationships, beliefs, etc.. the list is long.
It is into our lives that John offer ...
