Text: 2 Corinthians 2:14
INTRODUCTION
Take your Bibles this morning and turn to 2 Corinthians chapter 2. This morning, I want us to begin a new series of sermons titled "Living Above: Lessons for Living in Victory."
Question: Have you noticed lately that the entire world seems to be on fire and falling apart?
Illustration: From the deserts of Sudan, where civil war has raged for over 500 days, pushing the region towards famine and genocide, to the streets of Haiti, where the government has collapsed, leaving gangs in control, our planet is painted with strokes of conflict and despair.
In Africa, schools close due to insecurity; in Ukraine, aid trucks navigate the front lines; and across the Middle East, war rages, threatening to boil over into broader, bigger conflict that could involve the whole world. Meanwhile, in Asia, the threat of war looms as military might flexes around Taiwan and the South China Sea.
And don't forget that this past week, we've heard how foreign gangs have taken over apartment complexes in Colorado, and here in Georgia, a 14-year-old shooter walked into Apalachee High School and killed four people.
We live in a world turned upside down and inside out.
So, here's the question I want to begin addressing this morning: How do we:
- Live right-side up in an upside-down world?
- Live a godly life in a world that is wicked and evil?
- Have peace in a world that is full of unrest?
- Industrial unrest
- Political unrest
- Relational unrest
- Racial unrest
Example: I really want to go back and minister in South Africa, but it's not safe now because of all the racial violence and political conflict taking place there. I really want our students to be able to go to SLU 301 in England and France next summer, but it's too dangerous for Christians because of all the radical Muslims who've migrated there.
