Introduction

1. You truly do learn something new almost every day. I did as I was preparing this message. Because I did I learned an answer to a question that most of you do not. Does anyone here know the significance of September 29th? Now, unless that happens to be either your birthday or your wife's birthday (and if you are married you had better remember it!), your wedding anniversary or some other significant event in your life, you have no clue why this is a significant day.

2. Over 2 billion recognize this day and celebrate this day. It is called "World Heart Day." In the year 2000, the World Heart Foundation started "World Heart Day" to call attention to heart disease which is the leading killer in the world. Now heart disease doesn't kill everyone, but it is the leading cause of death for everyone.

3. Cardiologists know that one of the most dangerous, physical conditions related to the heart is what is called "a dirty heart." The medical term for that is endocarditis. It is a rare, but life-threatening inflammation of the lining inside your heart's chambers and valves. It is usually caused by germs that get into your bloodstream and travel to your heart. Once they get inside the heart the germs can attach to the lining or get trapped in valves and start to grow causing a dangerous infection and if not treated quickly can cause serious heart damage and even kill you. The cure is a heavy dose of antibiotics that literally cleanses and purifies the heart.

4. God is also concerned about the heart. His primary concern is not a physical heart that beats within our chest; it is the spiritual heart that beats within our soul. We are in a series we are calling "Get Used to Different." It is a study of the Sermon on the Mount, the greatest sermon Jesus ever preached. In this sermon is what is known as "the Beatitudes."
