Title: What About You
Author: Jerry Watts
Text: Romans 13:11-14, Revelation 2:2-5
Last April, Pastor Kevin Hamm and I released a book entitled, "The Repentance Road to Revival - The 10 Deadly Sins of the Church." In it, we briefly discussed the sins that we believe are the sins which the average church must repent of if revival is to come.
One of the reasons we did this is because of Romans 13:11 which says, "It's high time to awake out of sleep." When you are asleep, things have a way of overtaking you before you know what's going on. As a kid, I loved to go camping. Somehow, I would manage to sleep a little lighter in the woods because I was unsure who or what might amble into the camp and my sleeping bag. I had watched too many old western where a cowboy would go to sleep in his sleeping bag and wake us with a snake sleeping with him. To pan the landscape of our culture is to get the feeling that God's people, as a whole, have fallen asleep and it's time to wake up. Several whys exist. First, why would I say it? Because God's people in the USA had the greatest home field advantage of any culture and to look around today would now is to not recognize our culture. Second, why do I believe it's true? Back to the verse. "For our salvation is nearer than when we first believed." This is a reminder that every day we live, whether for the Lord or not, we come closer to the coming of our Savior, Redeemer, and King. We know He's coming soon but we also know this world is decaying fast. Ethics, morals, and beliefs are being redefined and, I submit, that we, God's people need to be REVIVED!
There'll be some in here who are not happy with this, would push back, and say, "Not Me, No siree, I'm as good as I can be. I've got it all together." My answer might be, "Maybe, Perhaps, Could be." I would glean two truths from that push back. 1) Based on His word, would He agree with you? 2) This is an observation; people who are truly walking with God, filled with the S ...
