Introduction

1. In case you haven't heard there is an event that takes place in our nation every four years that generates more fire, and heat, and passion from one end of this country to the other, more than the Final Four, the Super Bowl, the World Series, the World Cup and the NBA championships put together. Last month, a Republican was nominated to be our next president. This month a Democrat will be nominated to be our next president.

2. Unless you move to the Amazon jungle or a sound proof bunker over the next several months, you will be reminded that there's an election going on. In 2020, political spending topped $14 billion. For the next four years, they're not just an elephant in the room but an elephant and a donkey in the room and you can't get rid of them.

3. I'm going to begin today a two part series that I'm calling, "Political Correctness." Before your blood pressure goes up I don't mean what you might think I mean. What most people mean is the following: The concept of political correctness is based on the belief that speech or behavior that is offensive to various groups' sensibilities should be eliminated, by means of regulations or penalties if necessary. That is not what I mean and frankly, by my definition, I'm not politically correct.

4. What I mean by political correctness is the following: Being biblically correct in how we relate to politics, regardless of our own political preferences, philosophy, or perceptions. You see, there are two things that Christians must not do or be when it comes to politics. On the one hand, we cannot be politically ignorant. We need to be informed. We need to be knowledgeable about the issues and the candidates, what people believe, where they stand, and who they are.
