How to Build Wealth God's Way
Eliminate the Debt Monster
Proverbs 22:7
Dr. Ernest L. Easley
The devil loves to see God's people get into uncontrollable, unconquerable, unsurmountable debt. Debt ties up money that could be going to pay for water wells in Africa, for missionaries taking the good news of Jesus Christ to the nations, for purchasing bibles, for ministries of the church, for meeting the needs of our families and for preparing for the future.
Oh yes, and one more thing: debt prevents us from building wealth God's way! Debt is a wealth devourer that keeps us in financial bondage and prevents us from being a blessing to others, except to our creditors. Someone once said: "Running into debt is no trouble. Running into creditors is!"
Take God's word and turn with to Proverbs 22 as we continue our series of messages under the heading: HOW TO BUILD WEALTH GOD'S WAY. For several weeks now, we've been discovering wealth-building God's way. So far, we learned that building wealth God's way includes making him our partner, developing the art of saving money, build a strong marriage, learn to be an investor, avoid the gambling trap and leave alcohol alone.
Now today from God's word, we come to the seventh bible principle for building wealth God's way: Eliminate the Debt Monster. Listen to this warning from King Solomon in Proverbs 22.7, "The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is a slave to the lender." The Hebrew word translated "rule (Mashal) speaks of having dominion over, or to reign over, or to have power over. You could say it this way, "The rich have dominion over the poor ..." or "The rich reign over the poor ..." or "The rich have power over the poor ...".
And if that's not bad enough, he goes on and tells us that, "... the borrower is a slave to the lender." And yet, we continue spending money we don't have to buy things we don't need to impress people we don't like. Our world is drunk on debt!
