As we continue our series of messages under the heading, "HOW TO BUILD WEALTH GOD'S WAY," take God's word and turn with me to Proverbs 20. Now, I can hear somebody already thinking, "Is this a study about the prosperity gospel, name it and claim it?" Well, it is a study on prosperity, but it's not a name it and claim it series, but rather name it and change it series. There are things we need to change about our management of money to build wealth God's way. That's what this series of messages is all about.
You may have never thought about it, but God is in favor of his children building wealth. Listen to Deuteronomy 8.18, "but remember that the LORD your God gives you the power to gain wealth." Now let me ask you a question: why would God give you the power to gain wealth if he didn't want you building wealth? Prosperity is not a sin, but rather, it's a blessing from God and we've been discovering that he blesses us to be a blessing to others.
You say, "Ernest, I don't make enough money to build wealth. If I just made $10,000.00 more a year, life would be so much easier, and I could start building wealth rather living paycheck to paycheck."
I used to think that too, until I started making $10,000.00 more a year. Once I did, do you know what I discovered? I discovered I was no better off making $10,000.00 more a year than I was before. You say, "How can that be?" Because I managed the $10,000.00 more a year the same way I managed the lesser amount.
I soon learned that it's not so much the amount of money you make, as it is how you manage the money you do make and whether you embrace or exclude the wealth-devourers. I've met people making a six-figure salary living paycheck to paycheck drowning in debt with no hope of building wealth and I've met people making a modest salary living comfortably, paying their bills and preparing for their future by bui ...
