Title: Apostates Beware! (3)
Series: The Book of Jude
Author: Collin Wimberly
Text: Jude 5-7

CIT - Jude reminds God's people that there is a coming judgment for apostates.

Proposition - God judged apostates in the past, he will judge them in the future.

INTRODUCTION:

What is an apostate? The word itself means to stand away from something. Apostasy involves doctrinal deception, moral degradation, and ethical departure.

Apostasy is defection from the true Biblical faith.

Examples: Denying the deity of Jesus Christ. Denying the blood atonement.

Another example is the open acceptance of homosexuality in the churches today. "The United Church of Christ set up a $500,000 scholarship fund for gay and lesbian seminarians Friday and urged wider acceptance of homosexuals by other denominations." (United Church Makes Gay Scholarship, CLEVELAND, Jun 16, 2000, AP Online via COMTEX).

Jude reminds his readers that God has judged apostates in the past, and he will judge them today.

"But I want to remind you. "

Preaching is not designed to teach us something new in every sermon, but to put us in remembrance of the truth." Matthew Henry

Reminding stirs us up spiritually. That is it creates a fire, a fire of revival and passion.

2 Peter 3:1 Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder),

2 Peter 1:13 Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you,

Reminding people of the truth and challenging them to contemplate the truth deepens us and develops us.

"The Lord" a reference to the pre-existence of Christ.

Jude reminds us of three example of apostasy and the judgment of God that followed.

I) THE UNBELIEF OF THE ISRAELITES -

A) THEIR DELIVERANCE - God saved his people our of Egypt.

We see God's power in this deliverance. Mighty miracles were performed. Plagues were sent on the Egyptians, the Red Sea was pa ...
