MESSAGE:
As I sit here by this fire, I can't help but think about what it might have been like over 2,000 years ago.
Let me just paint a Picture of two travelers on the dusty road between Galilee and Jerusalem.
CAMPFIRE ON SCREEN
walking for days, stopping here and there to rest.
Then they stop to sleep and make camp, build a fire, and are talking.
One of them leans in and says, "Have you heard the good news?
A baby named Jesus has been born.
Some shepherds from Bethlehem are spreading the word."
SHEPHERD FIELD ON SCREEN
Luke 2:17-18 [NIV] 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.
BACK TO THE CONVERSATION...
THEY ARE SAYING.... "A baby? Come on. What's so special about that?"
No, I'm serious.
These shepherds said they saw angels-actual angels!-who told them a Savior had been born.
A Savior?"
CMON man
"How can this be?
We haven't had a prophet in 400 years! - SLIDE ABOUT INTERTESTAMENTAL PERIOD)
No miracles, no fresh word from God. Just silence."
I mean true but God has been speaking... in these 400 years, (O.T. - NT. Time)
YET DO YOU KNOW THAT THERE HAVE BEEN OVER 300 PROPHECIES IN THE OT THAT DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY POINT TO THE COMING OF THE MESSIAH
AND also.... I heard of a child named John the Baptist was born.
His dad is one of the priests at the Temple. I heard an Angel showed up to him also and said
Luke 1:11-17 [NIV] 11 Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense. 12 When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear. 13 But the angel said to him: "Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you ...
