Title: Restoring Wonder (2)
Series: The Arrival
Author: Jeff Ecklund
Text: Isaiah 9:6-7
6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
One of the frustrations in life, maybe just my life, is when I lose something!
I wish I could say it was because of getting older, but throughout life if we are honest, there are just things we lose.
I looked at some studies regarding people losing some things...(not because I lose things, she just puts them in a different spot!)
The top five things people lose; Keys/wallet/phone/TV Remote/ Glasses
71% of Americans lose the T.V. Remote once a month (as a child I WAS the remote)
50% of Americans admit the cause for being late to work is looking for something they lost
69% of Americans report finding something they lost..while looking for something else they lost!
One study shows that you shouldn't feel bad if you lose stuff...If you don't have a mental condition it's actually a sign of intelligence!
Monday/Saturday/Sunday are the three days most things are lost
How does this tie into a Christmas message? I think many people have "lost their wonder"...
Lost their wonder for God
Lost their wonder for people
Lost their wonder for life
Lost their wonder for the expectation of eternity!
This life, the challenges, the trials, the disappointments and certainly the "losses" can just take it out of you and we need to be reminded that we are a people produced by the wonder of God...
Depending on your translation, there are about 516 verses found containing wonder...
