CIT - Joseph's faithfulness as a ruler in the land of Egypt.

Proposition - The Church today needs men who are faithful to Christ in every aspect of their life.

INTRODUCTION:

Joe was a faithful man. Through the hard times he remained true to God. And, as we will see this evening, during the good times he remained faithful to God. To be honest, its often harder to be faithful when times are good!

Context: a lot of people wonder just why and how young Joe was raised so quickly to a position of prominence. First of all, it was the providence of God. God's power raised Joe up to this position of honor.

Secondly, Pharaoh probably felt a little kinship with Joe. Scholars tell us that the Pharaoh was one of the Hykos rulers - they were not from Egypt, but were Bedouins from Arabia. Joe would have been closer to the Pharaoh in nationality that the Egyptians. He may have trusted Joe simply because he was not an Egyptian.

The Hyksos were later expelled. This would explain Ex. 1:8 where it states that a Pharaoh arose who did not know Joe. It would also explain how the Hebrews, who were favored under the Hyksos rule, would be so mistreated under Egyptian rule.

I) HE WAS FAITHFUL IN PROSPERITY - vs. 42-46

Joe had been tested in adversity. In the pit, in Potiphar's penthouse, and in the prison he had no where to look but up. He had proven himself faithful in those dark and dangerous days. It is natural to look up to God when times are hard.

At this point, Joe's soul was in greater peril than at any other time in his short life. Prosperity may well be the greatest temptation that any person can face.

A) HE WAS GIVEN WEALTH - He was given Pharaoh's signet ring, fine clothing, a gold chain - a little bling.
