CIT - Joseph shows his brothers mercy in the land of Egypt.

Proposition - God shows us grace when we least expect it.

INTRODUCTION:

Have you ever received something just when you least expected to?

ILLUS: Receiving a reward in college that I had no idea I was going to. In fact, to this day I still don't know why they gave it to me. To be honest, I really didn't deserve it.

Joseph's dealings with his brothers are all about Grace. Grace and Mercy.

Grace and mercy where you would least expect to find it - in the land of Egypt.

I) GRACE FOR THE GRIEVING - 42:25-43:14

Although its been over 20 years since Joseph's disappearance, Jacob is still a broken hearted man, he is still grieving over his son's death. In these verses we find God's grace at work.

A) A SAD DAD - vs. 25-38

29-33 they relate the story to Jacob

Vs. 36 - You have bereaved me - He is grieving all over again. Another son lost, and his Benjamin, his favorite, in danger.

"All things are against me" Who can blame him really? Would you and I have felt any different?
Think of what has happened in life over the last 20 years.

- Joe was lost to him.

- Many of his sons had acted foolishly and immorally.

- Famine was devastating the land and consuming his wealth.

- Simeon was imprisoned. He assumed he would never see him again.

- His sons come home with their money still in their sacks - Surely the Egyptians would assume they had stolen the money.

- Now, "the man" Zaphnath -Paaneah - the most powerful man in Egypt and the world - wanted his son Benjamin.

How much more can one dad take?
