One of my favorite commercials of all time was the - Can You Hear Me Now - commercial by Verizon. Do you remember it? (if not - WATCH)

I love this commercial b/c to me, it speaks to the most essential discipline in the Christian life - which is, learning to hear/distinguish God's voice in our lives.

To be clear - there are (2) schools of thought when it comes to God speak. You have the cessationist and the non-cessationist views. Cessationist believe God has pretty much said/done all He needs to say/do and it's all recorded in the Bible - thus He no longer speaks or performs miracles like we see in the bible. They also believe the sign gifts have ceased. Non-cessationist believe God still moves, speaks, and perform miracles and that all the gifts are still active.

I'm a non-cessationist - and I absolutely believe God still moves/speaks - YET never ever contrary to His Word. Thus, there is NO spiritual discipline more vital to living the Christian life than having spiritual ears/eyes tuned to being able to hear/see God moving.

This brings me to our text for today. While the story is about Paul's conversion, there's a couple important lessons about hearing/responding to God's voice.

Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord's disciples. He went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem.
