Title: Fired Up (7)
Series: His Story
Author: Joey Rodgers
Text: Daniel 3:1-30
I read of a pastor who struggled to recall the names of the (3) Jewish boys who stood up to King Neb. in Daniel 3. So, one Sunday, to help him recall their names, he taped Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego on a piece of paper to the inside his suit coat. Only, when he stood up to speak, w/out knowing, the paper fell out. So, when it came time in his sermon to introduce them, he opened his coat, saw the paper missing - and in a panic introduced them as Hart, Shafner, and Marx. Now Hart, Shafner, and Marx are (3) Jewish boys, but they're not the ones in Daniel 3!
W/out question, the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego is one of the most exciting stories in the Bible teaching us about the importance of true faith.
Begging the question - What is faith?
Faith is the assurance of things hope for and the conviction of things not seen... and w/out faith - it is impossible to please God b/c the one who comes to God must believe He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:1, 6
What is faith? - faith is actively believing in someone or something even though you can't explicitly see or prove them - b/c based on limited yet substantial information - you can trust they're true!
IOW - faith isn't blind belief. It's belief that has measured the facts available and has drawn a credible conclusion that the person/information is reliable.
Chair - I can acknowledge the chair exist and evaluate its structure, but it still requires faith to stand/sit on it.
When it comes to trusting God - faith is the key element of the JESUS life - and the very basis of our followship. We believe - so we follow! We trust - so we obey - that is, we put our faith into motion. We don't just talk the talk; we also walk the walk.
Yet for a person's faith to be trusted; it must be tested.
A faith that fizzles before the finish was faulty from the first ...
