Title: The Devil Unmasked (5 of 6)
Series: This is War
Author: Jeff Schreve
Text: Acts 13:1-12
If you have your Bible, please turn to Acts chapter 13. I want to speak to you on this subject: "The Devil Unmasked."
Years ago, I heard a story about an usher. He was at the back of the church Sunday morning. People were coming in. And a lady came in. He didn't know who she was. He had never seen her before. And she said to him, "Young man, usher, I'd like you to sit me in the front row." And he said, "Okay, I can do that." But then he thought to himself, and he said, "You know, really, this is your first time here?" She said, "Yes." He said, "You need to know something. You don't want to sit on the front row" He said, "Our pastor is so boring. You don't want to sit on the front row." She said, "Young man, do you know who I am?" He said, "No." She said, "I'm the pastor's mother." He said, "Oh." He said, "Ma'am, do you know who I am?" She said, "No." He said, "Good." ?All that to say this: the devil doesn't want you to know who he is. He is the master of disguise.
We're in a series called, "This is War: Overcoming the World, the Flesh, and the Devil." And the world, the flesh, and the devil all work in concert to try and drag us away from the Word and walking in the Light, as He is in the Light, and keeping unbelievers from coming to know Christ. And the way the devil does his work is through deception. He's a liar and the father of lies. And the devil never comes on the scene unless he's wearing a disguise. The only party he attends is a masquerade party. And Paul says in Second Corinthians chapter 11, "Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light; therefore, it's not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness whose end shall be according to their deeds." He disguises himself as an angel of light. Did you ever stop to think about when he came to Eve in the Garden of Eden, why wasn't she afrai ...
