If you have your Bible, please turn to Second Corinthians chapter 10. We want to talk about this subject today: "Destroying Strongholds."

Many years ago, I had a young lady come to my office for counseling. She was probably around 30 years old. She was very pretty, very sweet, very smart. She had so much on the ball. She was so capable, yet she was so stuck, and her life was filled with turmoil and problems. She had lots of hurts from the past, sexual abuse in her past, a major father wound, an abandonment issue with her father. She was dealing with anger, and she was dealing with resentment, and she was dealing withdepression and all these things. Inferiority, all these things that had just taken over her life. She was a Christian, and she was solid in her testimony, but she was just so stuck. And she would read about the abundant life. Jesus said, "I came that you might have life, and have it abundantly." And she would long for the abundant life, but it never seemed to materialize for her. She made so many bad choices, and she had wrong thinking that led to wrong actions, and she couldn't seem to get over the hump.

Now, I want to ask you, can you relate to that young lady in one degree or another? Do you ever read the Scripture and that passage, especially in John 10:10, "I came that you might have life, and might have it abundantly," and you say, "Where is that for me? I have put my faith and trust in Jesus, but, man, I'm just struggling, and life is hard for me. And there is a particular sin, or maybe a cluster of sins, that just seem to defeat me, time and time and time again. I get a little momentum, and I get excited, but then the same sin comes back to defeat me over and over and over again." It's like Goliath coming up in First Samuel 17. For forty days, morning and evening for forty days, "I defy the ranks of Israel this day. ...
