If you have your Bible, please turn to First Peter chapter 5. We want to talk about "The Adversary," of our souls.
Now, it was January of 1980 when yours truly heard the gospel for the very first time that I can remember. I probably had people share the gospel with me, but I didn't remember it. It didn't sink in. But in January of 1980 it sunk in. I heard a man share his testimony, and he talked about his life as an athlete and running around and drinking beer and getting in fights, all this stuff that was my life. And so, it was like he was talking directly to me. I could relate to him. And I went home that night, and the Lord convicted my heart, showed me I was a sinner, and I was lost, and I cried out for mercy, and I asked Jesus to save me, and He did. Now, I didn't know a whole lot about the Christian life. I didn't know the significance of that moment like I understand it today. But, you know, in that moment, in my bedroom, all alone in my bedroom, crying out for the Lord's mercy to save me. Things happened. In that moment, BOOM, like that, I from being a child of the devil to a child of God. I went from the domain of darkness, delivered into the kingdom of His beloved Son. My name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life. I became a new creation in Christ. I died to my old way of life and received a brand-new life in Jesus. And you know what else happened that I didn't know, that I didn't understand at the time? I became a soldier in the Lord's army, and I became a combatant in the war that is going on all around us, the war. As Paul says, "We don't struggle with flesh and blood (the war is not with people), but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." There's a spiritual war raging, and every Christian is a soldier in the Lord's ar ...
