Big Idea:

As Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem, they may have had doubts about their future and their ability to handle what was ahead. The messy, uncertain circumstances of Jesus' birth were a far cry from what they likely imagined. In moments of doubt, God calls us to trust in His bigger plan, reminding us that even in our doubts, He is faithful.

Intro:

January 26, 2011 was not just another day for Jenny and me. It was our 9th year dating anniversary and we had planned to have dinner together to celebrate Jenny saying "yes" after waiting almost three weeks. I was on staff at our sending church and Jenny was working at a law firm in Chantilly, which was about a 15 minute drive. With the close proximity, we would carpool together-I would drop her off and then pick her back up and take I-66 home.

Out of nowhere, around 2 pm, it starts to snow and it's coming down to the point, where the federal government decides to let employees leave early. So Jenny gets a hold of me saying that they are being let go early to beat the storm. So I told her that I would leave to pick her up. With being from PA, I was used to driving in the snow...apparently not everyone is from the north and used to driving in the snow. It took me about an hour to pick her up.

When she got in the car, 50 and Fairfax County Parkway was literally "carmageddon". I'm second my decision to leave when I did. I'm second guessing why I didn't go to the bathroom before I left. I doubted if we would even get back to our church let alone home...safely. I was beginning to doubt my own driving experience with snow.

It took us 8 hours to go 16 miles...maneuvering between abandoned cars. It was about 11 pm and we decided to stay overnight at our sending church, which wasn't plowed so our feet were soaking wet to get into the building. When we got inside, we made ourselves as comfortable as we cou ...
