Be Thankful
Jerry Watts
Psalm 100

One of my favorite Thanksgiving stories is about the middle-aged man in Phoenix who calls his son in New York and says, "I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing. Forty-five years of misery is enough." "Pop, what are you talking about?" the surprised son protests. "We can't stand the sight of each other any longer," the old man says. "We're sick of each other, and I'm sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Chicago and tell her." Then he hangs up. Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. "There's no way they're getting divorced," she shouts, "I'll take care of this." She calls Phoenix immediately, and shouts at her dad, "You are NOT getting divorced. Don't do a single thing until I get there. I'm calling my brother back, and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?" The man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife and says, "Both the kids are coming home for Thanksgiving, and they are paying their own way."

An African American lady name Mamie offered this prayer, 'Much obliged, Lord, for my vittles.' Someone asked, 'what's are vittles?' ( 'Beverly Hillbillies?') 'It's what I've got to eat and drink, that's vittles. 'But you'd get your vittles whether you thanked the Lord or not.' 'Sure, but it makes everything taste better to be thankful.'"

Today, I am calling us to be 'thankful.' This call is for us be thankful for the right things in the right way to the right One. It is one thing to 'say, "I'm thankful,"' but it's another thing to actually "BE THANKFUL."

King David wrote Psalm 100 out of the heart of 'thanksgiving .' It is loaded with "Thanksgiving and Praise" and even answers two questions for us. That is the "HOW" and "WHY" questions. Let's see what it tells us.

1) How Can We Be Thankful? - Here is what I would offer - 'thru authentic worship!! One of the greatest NFL defensive player of all ...
