Today is the third part of our four-part Christmas Advent Series, and today is we will celebrate "Joy In Him" just as the shepherds found joy in seeing the angelic beings and in traveling into the city and seeing the baby, as he lay there in the manger.

Even though "Advent" is usually based upon calendar of the Roman Catholic Church or the Episcopalian Church, there is much to celebrate in observing this idea of Advent. Today is known as "Gaudete Sunday and the term is derived from the Latin opening words of the introit antiphon, "Rejoice (Gaudete) in the Lord always." The theme of the day expresses the joy of anticipation at the approach of the Christmas celebration.

As we begin to observe this third Sunday of Advent, we will now light the third candle, which is pink in color and is known as "The Shepherds Candle." The color pink is observed as the color of joy, just as those shepherds found joy in seeing the angel of the Lord, hearing the words of the angelic choir, and then upon seeing the little baby, as he lay there in that manger, in his swaddling clothing. The entire message and story of the shepherds is one of great joy and jubilation, which was not merely for them, but unto the whole world.

As we look upon this pink candle, we know that we can find "Joy in Him!!!"
