Series: Advent Christmas
Author: Donald Cantrell
Text: Luke 2:1-7
Advent Christmas Series
I - The Declared Census (1a)
II - The Distance Calculated (3 - 4)
III - The Described City (4)
IV - The Displaced Couple (5)
V - The Delivery Considered (6 - 7)
This sermon contains a fully alliterated outline, with subpoints.
In this sermon and on this Sunday, we will celebrate the second part of Advent, as we light the second candle, which represents "Peace" and this candle will also be "Purple" in color, often called "The Bethlehem Candle." We will discuss the journey and the jeopardy that Joseph and Mary faced, as they left Nazareth and traveled unto Bethlehem.
The Nation of Israel had been given a word of hope about their coming Messiah, but later on they faced dispersion and destruction, due to their hardheartedness, their stubbornness, and their wickedness. Now that the previous prophecy of Isaiah is going to be fulfilled, the nation is going to build upon their hope, as the world is now offered peace, because of this baby boy that was to be born in Bethlehem.
Previously, we discussed "Hope In Him" and now we find "Peace In Him."
PEACE
This question was once asked, "If you could choose what you want most in life, what would you ask for?" The most common answer was "Peace." People want peace in their marriages, families, workplaces, country and world. Our country has some of the best medical and psychological treatment centers, highest educational institutions and worldwide communication abilities.
Yet with all of these things, most people are yet without true inner peace. The results are devastating... broken marriages, split families, hatred, rebellion, financial anxiety, a country unsettled. The world will offer you peace through many forms of escapism... drugs, alcohol, immoral relationships, constant entertainment.
It is sought through all forms of pleasure, self-satisfaction ...
