In this second week of Advent we lit the candle of PEACE. - It is true Jesus Christ is the PRINCE OF PEACE. If you want peace with God ... if you want the peace of God ... that only comes through Jesus Christ.
- A common theme you here promoted at Christmas is PEACE ON EARTH, but do we see peace on earth?
The truth is ... Jesus Christ came into this world and was CRUCIFIED. The Prince of Peace was put to death on a cross. - They wanted Him dead, they rejected Him. They treated Him like a criminal.
- Jesus Christ was CONTROVERSIAL in many ways. Not because He did something wrong ... no because the world is so wrong.
- To this day ... Jesus is CONTROVERSIAL. Isn't He? When His teaching is followed ... when His person and work are fully embraced ... there is an impact.
There is a type of DIVISION that Jesus came to bring. Jesus came ... lived ... died ... and rose again ... and there is NOT peace on the earth. So what gives? There are people that hate Christians. Many people hate Christian teaching. Why is this? - Well Jesus tells us in Luke 12 ... He came to cast fire on the earth, to not bring peace but division.
- If we are going to really understand Christmas ... we need to understand it fully. We need to understand the peace Jesus brings, but also the division, and the peace He will one day bring. We need to understand the full ramifications of why He came to the earth.
Luke 12:49-53 - "I came to cast fire on the earth, and would that it were already kindled! 50 I
have a baptism to be baptized with, and how great is my distress until it is accomplished!
51 Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.
52 For from now on in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against
three. 53 They will be divided, father against son and so ...
