What We Need Most
At the time when Jesus was born, the people of Israel were waiting for their Messiah. But what they wanted their Messiah to do wasn't what they needed most.
In Luke's account of the birth of Jesus, he mentions the Romans and their taxation. The Jews wanted their Messiah to defeat the Romans and remove them from their land. But there was something that they needed more.
Actually, we all have the same need. It's the reason why Jesus was born. He was born to provide what we need most.
Connecting Christmas with Easter
The angel said to the shepherds, "This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger" (v. 12).
In Luke's Gospel, there's a connection between Christmas and Easter (i.e., the stories of Jesus' birth and his resurrection).
