Series: Summer in the Psalms
Author: Josh Malone
Text: Psalm 115
- We are created to KNOW God, to LOVE God, to OBEY God, to WORSHIP God.
ILLUS. - Planets - All the planets are rotating around the sun. - Now, at one time people assumed earth was at the center ... but it's not ... it's the sun that is like the center of our universe. - And we today ... life works on earth because it is just the right distance from the sun. - If things were off ... things would be ... bad.
- Similarly ... life only works when God is at the center. - We are made to GLORIFY Him, not to glorify ourselves. We are made to worship Him, not something else.
- We should be concerned about God receiving glory in our lives. - We are meant to live for the glory of God ... accept no substitutes.
- In Psalm 115 we have what some call a psalm of confidence or "communal confidence." - The scene is for some reason it would seem, other nations are mocking God due to the situation His people find themselves in.
- In this psalm, the psalmist calls on God to glorify Himself, and on Israel to trust in God. He lays out the case against the idols of the other nations, and extols the glory and goodness of God, and calls on Israel to trust God alone.

2 Why should the nations say, "Where is their God?" 3 Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases.
4 Their idols are silver and gold, the work of human hands. 5 They have mouths, but do not speak; eyes, but do not see. 6 They have ears, but do not hear; noses, but do not smell.7They have hands, but do not feel; feet, but do not walk; and they do not make a sound in their throat. 8 Those who make them become like them; so do all who trust in them.
9O Israel, trust in the Lord! He is their help and their shield. 10 O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord! He ...
