Title: Put not Your Trust in Princes (8)
Series: Summer in the Psalms
Author: Josh Malone
Text: Psalm 146
- I don't know if you've heard ... but it's a PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION YEAR.
- There is a TEMPTATION in seasons like this, and all seasons ... to make HUMAN LEADERS ... more than leaders ... to make them idols. - To ascribe to them more than we should, to hope in them more than we should, to trust in them more than we should.
- The Bible warns against this. - We have to learn to contend, debate, support, vote ... w/o idolizing and putting ultimate trust in.
- You see this on the RIGHT, LEFT, and down the MIDDLEin our politics. - Anyone is capable of putting too much trust in government and political leaders.
- That's not to say elections don't matter and that we shouldn't care. - We should!
- But BEWARE that we contend for the ISSUES ... that we contend for biblical values ... w/o putting undue trust in ... government, political parties, and politicians.
- But it's not just political leaders. - Today's psalm should be a warning to us ... not to put our ultimate trust in ANYONE or ANYTHING ... other than the Lord.
- Today's psalm will speak to this ... and encourage us to trust the Lord.
Psalm 146:1-10 - Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! 2 I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.
3 Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation.
?4 When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish.
5 Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God,
?6 who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who keeps faith forever;
?7 who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets the prisoners free; 8 the Lord opens the eyes of the blind.
?The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lordloves the righteous.
