Text: Psalm 29
- Today we look at Psalm 29. - This is a psalm that puts God's power and glory on full display. - It's a psalm that should make us think and go "WOW" ... but at the same time it should encourage us ... as we shall see God is not simply magnificent, all powerful ... He is willing and able to bless. He is our God and He is good.
- Strength and power are good in the right hands. If something or someone has STRENGTH or has POWER that can be a GOOD or BAD thing depending on how they use those things, depending on the character and intent of the possessor.
- Strength and power in the RIGHT HANDS ... can be a real blessing. - As we shall see in this psalm ... God's strength, God's power ... holds incredible blessing for His people.
- Storms have incredible strength and power ... they can very dangerous. A storm helps set the scene for our psalm this morning.
Psalm 29:1-11 - 1 Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. 2 Ascribe to the Lordthe glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.
3 The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over many
waters. 4 The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
5 The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lordbreaks the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He makes Lebanon to skip like a calf, and Sirion like a young wild ox.
7 The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire. 8 The voice of the Lord shakes the
wilderness; the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
9 The voice of the Lord makes the deer give birth and strips the forests bare,
and in his temple all cry, "Glory!"
10 The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord sits enthroned as king forever.
11 May the Lord give strength to his people! May the Lordbless his people with peace!
