INTRODUCTION: "Politics is too serious a matter to be left to the politicians" (Charles de Gaulle). I'm going to preach about politics today and let me begin with an apology for not preaching about it more often. The Bible is full of politics. You all love to talk about politics. And politics is such a unifying factor in our churches, homes and communities. I'll try to do better in the future. My central idea is that when we Christians engage in the political process, we need to glorify God. That's our goal in life and that's OUR goal in politics. Glorify God. To glorify God in politics, let's remember three truths.

I. WHAT HAPPENS IN THE WHITE HOUSE IS IMPORTANT
When I say, "The White House" I mean government in general. Each of my pithy sayings have the word "house" in them so let me use "The White House" as a metaphor for government/politics in general. In England I might have said, "Buckingham Palace." In Moscow I might have said, "The Kremlin." In Middle Earth I might have said "Minas Tirith." I'm using "White House" metaphorically for OUR government and political system.

Jeremiah 29:7 "Work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare." This was God, speaking to Israelites who were not living in their beloved homeland, but who had been defeated, captured and EXILED into the land of Babylon. This is precisely the approach that we should take in our "American Babylon." We're not in HEAVEN yet, we're living down here as exiles. God expects US to get to work. "Work for America' ...
