INTRODUCTION

I want you to take your copy of God's Word this morning and find your place in the book of Acts. Today, we're continuing in our series of studies that I've entitled, "Surviving the Holidays: Getting Together and Getting Along."

So far, we've looked at what the Bible teaches about the importance of relationships. Last week we dealt with how to deal with a diva. This week, I want us to think about and talk about - What you should do when you're face to face, but not eye to eye. Or, to put it another way - What should we do as Christians when we disagree?

Because, here's the one thing that I know without a doubt: We're going to disagree.

(Especially in a Baptist church.)

I mean, if I haven't learned anything in my 26 - nearly 27 - years of serving as a pastor in Baptist churches, I have learned this: If you have two Baptists, you've got at least 5 opinions. (Just to be honest, you can have that many opinions with just one Baptist.) And, wherever there are differences of opinion, there's always the potential for disagreement and division.

Illustration: I heard about a Baptist who had been shipwrecked on a deserted island for 20 years. When he was finally found and rescued, his rescuers noticed there were three buildings he'd built on that island. They asked him what the buildings were. He said, "Well, that one there on the left is my house and the one there on the right is my church."

"What about the one there in the middle?" "Oh, that's my old church."

Maybe that's the reason why there are more Baptists than any other Christian faith group in the world, with the exception of Catholics.

Which, by the way, did you know there are over 250 different kinds of "Baptists"?

There are -

- Southern Baptists

- American Baptists

- Conservative Baptists

- General Baptists
