Introduction: Take God's Word now this morning and find your place in the little book of 3 John, if you would. And just in case you failed Vacation Bible School, let me help you, it's almost at the very end of the New Testament, right before Jude and Revelation. Alright? Found it yet? Good. 3 John, and we're going to be looking this morning at verses 9-12 as we continue in our brand-new series of studies that I've entitled, "Surviving the Holidays: Getting Together and Getting Along."

If you're a guest - or missed last Sunday - we're talking about relationships as we get ready for our family and company get-togethers that take place during the holidays.

Illustration: Dennis the Menace at the Thanksgiving table looks over at Mr. Wilson and says, "I bet they cut the turkey's head off so he doesn't give us the evil eye the whole meal."

At my house, it would have been my mom giving us boys the "evil eye" for eating before we prayed or kicking each other under the table. (Not much has changed in the past 40 years.)

We're talking about relationships - how to have healthy, growing, lasting relationships.

Now -

- For some of you I want you to develop relationships with those around you for your sake.

- For others of you I want you to strengthen relationships with those that you work with, live next to, or play with for their sake.

- For some I want you to grow in your relationship with this church for Heaven's sake

- And then, there may be some of you who need to begin a relationship with Jesus for eternity's sake.

You see, I believe that discovering and developing good, healthy, growing, open, and lasting relationships is one of the most vitally important elements in your life.

For example,

- Relationships are vital to your physical health.
