Please turn in your Bible to 2 Timothy 3. Four years ago today was my first Sunday as your pastor. In my message on the 'call' weekend, I shared with you what was on my resume and now hangs on this sign. At that time, I offered that if you called me, these would be my guiding principles and that I would ask us embrace as a foundation for God's work here, and you did. I call them "Core Beliefs." The concept of beliefs is interesting. At times, people 'say' they believe something, but those 'beliefs' don't translate into action. As I have said, 'True Beliefs are what you 'DO", the rest is just talk.'

At the same time, beliefs are one thing but "CORE BELIEFS" are beliefs on steroids, these are the foundation upon which lives are built. For 4 years, this banner displaying these CORE BELIEF have hung every week for everyone to see. It's one thing for them to hang on the wall, but it's another thing entirely for us to embrace them with our hearts, words, and lives.

During these years, I have only mentioned these in passing, but now, with the culture what it is, I sense it's time for us to revisit these statements. We will do so for the next 5 weeks. Why would I do this?

First, repetition is the mother of learning. But the main reason is deeply Biblical, Spiritual, and even motivational.

When I began preaching, 35 years ago, one of my first messages was from 2 Corinthians 13:5 (NKJV) which says, "Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?-unless indeed you are disqualified." My outline was Examine yourself, Test Yourself, and Know Yourself." Candidly, because most of the New Testament Greek is in the PRESENT PERFECT TENSE, this admonition keeps me revisiting, reviewing, and reestablishing my faith and it should YOURS too.
