We have all experienced moments where it seems as if life is tearing apart at the seams. It could be due to the loss of a job, breakdown of a relationship, failure in some endeavor, the pain of sickness, sorrow from the loss of a loved one, or from the overwhelming weight of sin in our lives.

When you hit rock bottom the nagging question becomes, "Can I come back from this? Is there a way back" No matter the reason or path we took to the bottom, the answer if always found in God. That is especially true when the path we took to the bottom was carved out by the consequences of our own sin and rebellion against God.

Consider the story of man we will call Jack. It is not a real story, but it easily could be, and I am sure some version of it has been lived out countless times through the years. It mirrors many of the stories I heard from Gideon's International, a group of Christian men who work hard to place Bibles in the hands of people around the world.

Jack walked away from everything that mattered, his family and his faith. He integrity had been shattered by selfish and sinful decisions. Jack discovered that no matter how fast, how long or how far you run - the consequences of your sin will eventually chase you down and overtake you.

Jack found himself alone in a dingy old motel wondering if there was any way back. Jack felt he had gone too far and done too much. He doubted if he could ever be made right again. He doubted in life would ever be good again.

That night Jack, in desperation, Jack did something he hadn't in years...he picked up a Bible. He opened it and the words that caught his eyes were Hosea 6.1. "Come, let us return to the Lord. For He has torn us, but He will heal us; He has wounded us, but He will bandage us."
