INTRODUCTION

Take your Bibles and turn with me to Matthew chapter 13. In just a minute we're going to read verses 45 and 46 as we pick up in our series of sermons through the parables of Jesus, and the lessons they teach, that I've entitled, "Amazing Stories".

This morning we're going to look at one of the shortest parables Jesus ever told. It's known as "the parable of the pearl of great price."

Mark 4:34 says that Jesus didn't teach His disciples anything unless it was through a parable.

In other words, all the time, every day, Jesus was using this simple, powerful, mysterious method of teaching to communicate the truth of the Kingdom.
He loved to talk about -

- Sheep - Silver - People - Things

- Ordinary things

- Everyday things

- Things that people understood

- And use them in a story to illustrate wonderful, heavenly, spiritual, divine,
and eternal truths.

And these seven, short, kingdom parables Jesus told here in Matthew 13 were given to us to help us understand the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, or the secrets of Heaven's rule over the earth even while the King Himself, the Lord Jesus, is rejected in this age.

I think it's really important to remember that the expression Jesus uses here in Matthew, "the kingdom of heaven," isn't talking about Heaven itself. It's talking about all of professing
