Title: Virgin Birth (1 of 5)
Series: Arrival
Author: Steve Jones
Text: Matthew 1

Afterward, she had little doubt that her baby boy was doing fine - since he gave her the thumbs up (show pic). Here's a picture of a slightly older "Taylor". And while we're on the theme we also have "Peace sign, baby," a compliant child and "rock and roll baby" who will be trouble in the future.
An ultrasound machine uses sound waves to create images of the baby in the womb. Sonograms are the pictures that result from the ultrasound. These sonograms are used to foretell the size, the health, the sex, and the age of the baby in the womb. Bonnie Martinelli, the director of Carenet Pregnancy Center, tells me that when abortion-minded parents see their baby in an ultrasound, 90% of the time they decide to keep the baby. There's something compelling about that undeniable evidence of life. The parents' anticipation and excitement over their new child grows and develops.

They're pictures foretelling important details of the coming Jewish Messiah; details such as the time, place, purpose, and significance of his birth. This month we're going to be looking at these Old Testament sonograms and using them to focus our minds and hearts on the Christ child.
The first Old Testament sonogram we're going to look at is the prophecy of the virgin birth. More than anything else, the virgin birth of Jesus is at the heart of the Christmas story and holds huge implications for our faith. I want us to see four of those implications today.
