If you have your Bible, please turn to Mark chapter 10. We're in a series called Divine Encounters, what happens when people meet the Master. And we've talked about Jesus and Nicodemus, and Jesus and the Woman at the Well, and Jesus and the People of Nazareth, Jesus and the Unclean Woman, the woman with the issue of blood, Jesus and Conditional Disciples. Last week, it was Jesus and the Man Born Blind in John chapter 9. And today, it's Jesus and the Rich Young Ruler. It's an account that is mentioned in Matthew and Mark and Luke. And we're going to look at Mark's account. You know, when we put together Matthew and Mark and Luke, we put them all together, we find out that this unnamed guy was rich. Luke says he was extremely rich. Luke also said he was a ruler, probably a ruler in the synagogue. And then, Matthew tells us he is young. So, putting them all together, we find out he is the rich young ruler.

This is what it says in Mark's gospel account, Mark chapter 10, beginning in 17: "And as He (Jesus) was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and asked Him, 'Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?' And Jesus said to him, 'Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments, 'DO NOT MURDER, DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, DO NOT STEAL, DO NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS, DO NOT DEFRAUD (which was probably connected to the tenth commandment, 'YOU SHALL NOT COVET. HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER.' And he said to Him, 'Teacher, I have kept all these things from my youth up.' Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, 'One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.' But at these words he was saddened, and he went away grieving, for he was one who owned much property." Or as Luke ...
