Text: John 4:1-30
In 1979, a song came out by a Christian songwriter, Don Francisco. Don Francisco was known for taking Scripture passages, stories in the gospel accounts and other places, and he would turn them into a song. And one of the songs he did was from Mark chapter 5, also in the gospel of Luke - Jairus and his little girl. Remember, Jarius came to Jesus and said his little girl was sick. He said, "Please come and heal my little daughter." And while Jesus was making His way to Jarius' house, they came to Jairus and said, "Don't bother the teacher anymore. Your little child has died." And Jesus said, "Don't be afraid, only believe." And Jesus went and raised her from the dead. And then He told Jarius and his wife, "Don't tell anybody." Well, in Don Francisco's song, he picks up on that and he speaks from Jairus perspective, and he says, "I got to tell somebody. I got to tell somebody. I got to tell somebody what Jesus did, what Jesus did for me. You know, He gave me life when all hope was gone. When there was grief, He brought joy instead. I got to tell somebody what Jesus did for me." Well, I would think that almost all Christians would agree, that when it comes to the Christian life, the part of telling people about Jesus is the part that we get really nervous about. We talk about witnessing; telling another person how they can come to know Jesus in a real and personal way. And we know we're supposed to do that, but let's face it, a lot of us don't do that, and we feel like, "Well, I'm ill equipped to do that. I don't know the Bible well enough to do that. Who am I to do that? You know, I've got some inconsistencies over here and here and here, and maybe I shouldn't do that. And I don't know what to say." And all these fears come flooding in. And so, we don't tell anybody. We don't know, many of us, how to go about that.
