Title: Turning Defeat into Victory

INTRODUCTION: Have you ever made a decision or mistake that you regretted and had to deal with the consequences of it? I believe all of us have done something in our past that we're not proud of, or wish we could go back and have a "do-over!" The Bile teaches us in Romans 3:23, "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Because of these decisions, if we're not careful, they can cause us to become discouraged, disillusioned, or even defeated. Sometimes or maybe even most times, it's difficult to "bounce back" once you've had that setback. A man by the name of Alexander Whyte said, "The victorious Christian life is a series of new beginnings." No matter what mistake we may make, the worst mistake of all is not to try again; and the devil would like nothing more than for us to give up on ourselves, give up on each other, and especially give up on God. Even though the mistake was made, there's still an opportunity of Turning Defeat Into Victory!
BACKGROUND: To understand what's going on in Joshua 8, you have to go back and look at Chapter 6. God had given directions for Joshua and the children of Israel to overtake the city of Jericho and also said that the gold, silver and vessels of brass and iron were consecrated unto the Lord and were to be put into the treasury of the Lord. One of the men of Israel named Achan decided not to listen to God and took some of those things for himself. In Joshua 7, God was angered because of this and when they went out to fight against Ai, they were defeated because of the sin in the house. When they came back to the camp, Joshua took immediate action and began seeking God for answers. It was discovered that Achan had taken some of the consecrated things, and buried them under his tent.
