Are You Living Under A Curse?

Malachi 3:7-9

INTRODUCTION: I watch television on a regular basis and some years ago I watched a movie called, "The Color Purple." It's a story about a woman named Ms. Celie who lived a very timid and sheltered existence, almost to the point that she does not exist at all in the eyes of some people. Growing up, she's abused by family members which caused her to go deeper and deeper into timidity and low to no self-esteem. When she's old enough, she spends her time primarily taking care of husband, who she calls "Mister" who mistreats and belittles her, thus treating her like a piece of property instead of treating her like a person.

- He used her;
- He abused her;
- He beat upon her;
- He mistreated her;
- He disregarded her;
- He belittled her;
- He ignored her;
- He took advantage of her; and,
- He disrespected her to name a few!

That scenario sounds a lot like our text today in which the nation of Israel was treating the God of their salvation and deliverance inappropriately, and were doing things just the opposite of His commands and expectations. God told them what the expectation was, yet they decided to do just the opposite and God proclaimed a ...
