Psalm 11:3
If you have your Bible, please turn to the Book of Psalms. We're going to be in Psalm 11 today, just looking at one verse as we talk about what everybody is talking about, and that is the election that will take place in America, Election Day, November 5, Tuesday, November 5th.
I've been at the church as the pastor since 2003, and every election cycle I do a sermon on the election. You say, "Why do you do that?" Because elections matter! Because it's important! Because, as we're going to learn today, Psalm 11, verse 3, "If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do?" Elections have consequences. Elections matter. And we care about our nation. We care about what we're going to hand to our children and to our grandchildren. And as you've heard the famous quote that's attributed to Edmund Burke, "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing." So, good people, God's people, we need to rise up. We need to know what is going on. We need to be like the sons of Issachar, men who understood the times and what Israel should do.
Now, as you know, the election on November 5th is for President, which is the top of the heap. You have Kamala Harris, the incumbent current Vice-President going up against Donald Trump, the former President. And barring some totally unforeseen situation, one of those two people is going to be the President at the end of this election. And with Trump comes J.D. Vance, and with Kamala Harris comes Tim Walz. And so, that's what we're looking at. This is a binary choice. There is not a third-party candidate writing in for somebody else is, might as well throw it in the trash, because one of those two people will be President. And so, we want to look at this question today as it relates to the election: Election 2024, what is a Christian to do?
