Title: When God Makes a Change

INTRODUCTION: Change is part of life. Some people welcome change; others despise it. Continuing the "status quo" stifles people, organizations, institutions, and even churches. It (change) enables us to see the transformation or metamorphosis that takes place in our life or the lives of the people around us. Without change, we're unable to see how God work things out or His true power in our lives. For example, there's a misconception in our society concerning marriage whereby one person says, "Once we get married, I'll change him/her to be who I want them to be" or "Once we get married, I'll make sure he/she will do what I tell or want them to do." People with that mindset have taken it upon themselves to "change" others into who they want them to be. The problem is, true change won't take place until God steps into the picture and when God is in the picture, change takes place. Let's talk about, "When God Makes a Change."
BACKGROUND/TEXT: Our text is found in the Book of Genesis or the Book of Beginnings. Moses, our writer or scribe is providing the children of Israel with an accounting of their history for them to past down through the generations. If we know where we've been, it helps to get where we're going! Moses helps us to understand:
(1) Who was in the beginning; (God)
(2) How we came to be; (Created by God)
(3) The fall of man; and (Sinned against God)
(4) That a Messiah was needed and prophesied to come. (Sent by God)
Concerning beginnings, our society has been hit by what's known as "generational curses" (passed down from generation to generation). We can find it's origins in the Book of Genesis. In Chapter 12, God instructed Abram to leave his country and go to the place he was leading him. Upon their arrival in Egypt, he instructed his wife Sarai to tell the people that she was his sister and not his wife, so that they wouldn't kill ...
