Over the last two Sundays, you've learned some odd things about me. We've also had some laughs at my expense. Some of you will be happy to know- we're not done yet. I have a confession that's going to appall some of you. I really haven't wanted to share this with you. Only a couple of people know. Are you ready? Okay, here we go. I've always been a huge San Francisco 49ers fan. Now, before you judge me or boo me, please understand that my parents grew up in the Bay Area so that has something to do with it. But I've also loved most of their players over the years, especially Brock Purdy and Christian McCaffery. I realize that the Chiefs may very well win, especially with their #1 fan Taylor Swift. (She usually gets everything she wants and more.) Nonetheless, I'll be rooting for the Niners today.
Now, if I wasn't here with you this morning, and the 49ers would allow it, I'd go into their locker room before the Super Bowl, put on all the football gear and uniform, and then walk out onto the field with the team. That would be unforgettable! Now, I'd be equipped to play the game, but would I be qualified to play? You don't have to laugh that hard! Obviously not! My height, weight, strength, and speed don't qualify. Not to mention, my age! I mean come on! Let's be real! The prospect is laughable!
Similarly, there's a difference between being equipped for ministry and being qualified for ministry. A huge difference! Who is qualified for ministry? Ultimately, no one! However, the Lord calls us to serve Him and others. In 2 Cor 3:1-6, the apostle Paul shares two ministry essentials for qualified service.
