Title: God Owns it All (1)
Series: A Pathway of Generosity
Author: Timothy Melton
Text: Psalm 24:1, Colossians 3:23-24
Today we are beginning a journey. We are calling it a Pathway Of Generosity. We are surrounded by a world that often takes care of only itself. We at times are tempted to do the same. The world continues to trend towards materialism, greed, and covetousness but we followers of Christ are called to something more.
We see glimpses of generosity as we watch the news after Hurricane Helene and it warms our hearts but yet it is the exception not the norm. Among all people, we are above all blessed. We have Christ, His unending love, His forgiveness, His call, His purpose, His promises and His provision. We have been blessed to be a blessing. Generosity should not just be a sermon series or Sunday School topic but a lifestyle for Christians.
Today, as we begin this series we will be looking at the teaching of stewardship from the Bible.
A steward is someone who is responsible for managing or overseeing something on behalf of another person or entity.
It would be like a building contractor who is building a house. It is not his land, his money or his house. He is hired to manage and steward the money, the plans, the builders, the materials and the schedule in such a way that a house will be built according to the plans, within the budget given and completed by the deadline agreed upon. He is a steward.
We find this teaching of stewardship in the Bible.
Biblical Stewardship: The use and management of all the resources that we have at our disposal to fulfill God's call on our lives and further God's purposes in this world.
Some describe resources as time, talent and treasure.
