Title: Jonah (2)
Series: Jonah
Author: Brian Mills
Text: Jonah 1:15-2

Last week we found the Prophet Jonah being handed an assignment no one would want

To reach a group of people no one would want to see go to heaven.

You have those people in your life?
You would never consider inviting them to church
You would never think about talking to them about Jesus
Secretly you hope they don't go to heaven they hurt you so badly.

That is what people would have thought of the Assyrian's

Which Nineveh is the capital of Assyria

Yet Jonah is told to call them to repentance...

REALLY SHOW HOW GOD LOVES ALL PEOPLE.

We say all the time here - NO PERFECT PEOPLE ALLOWED.

Everyone has their issues and a past.

God does not stop running after you because of your past or current decisions.

When are you going to stop running from him?

That is where we left Jonah...

He came to a point to say... Jonah came to the point where he said it is time for me to stop RUNNING from the LORD because my RUNNING is affecting EVERYONE around me.

Which is so true is it not?
?
Our running affects everyone.

We left Jonah flying into the sea....

Jonah 1:15 - Jonah 2
[NIV] 15 Then they the men in the boat took Jonah and threw him overboard, and the raging sea grew calm. 16 At this the men greatly feared the Lord, and they offered a sacrifice to the Lord and made vows to him. - they chose to follow the Lord

[NIV] 17 Now the Lord provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Now all kinds of questions here right...
?
How long can Jonah hold his breath?
?Did he die in the belly of the fish and come back to life?
?Did you set up camp?

Jesus in Matthew 12:39-41 compares this moment to his own dying and resurrection.

Emphasizing that His work is greater than Jonah's because He is the fulfillment of God's ultimate plan of redemption.
